Hi. My name is EB. I had a tragic accident in a swimming pool in August 2014 causing a spinal cord injury at the cervical level of my spinal cord leaving me a complete quadriplegic. I have no sensation or mobility below the level of my injury leaving me forever paralyzed below the level of my shoulders. I now get around using a power wheelchair with a breath –driven sip and puff air technology. There are many challenges I overcome on a daily basis.
Before my accident, I was a travel orthopedic physical therapist and trained yoga instructor. I actually volunteered as a student many years ago in the very facility, Craig Hospital, where I received my rehabilitation. Crossing the line between being the therapist to now being the patient, I have a very unique perspective on recovery, working on functional return and learning how to live life to the fullest with my own current specific needs as a spinal cord injury survivor.
My life is going forward, and I am working hard every hour of every day to keep my mind and body active, so I can not only help myself but also millions of others who don’t want to be defined by their physical disability.
